Event day checklist

The YMCA Father’s Day Fun Run is this Sunday and the excitement is building!
To help you get ready, here’s a guide to everything you need to know about the fun run this Sunday 3 September.

Registrations will still be open on the day, but at a slightly higher price. If you or anyone you know is interested in taking part, encourage them to sign up online by midday on Friday 1 September to beat the final price rise! Click here to register.

What time and where?
If you’re taking part in the 10km run, it starts at 8am. The 5km will kick off at 9.30am.
There will be a warm up for both runs – these are at the start line 15 minutes before.

When you arrive, head to the Event Village in Alexandra Gardens right by the skate park if you need to drop off any belongings to the bag check and if you need to collect your bib for the fun run.
If not, you can head straight to the start line which is located on Alexandra Avenue, east of the Swan Street Bridge.

The walk from the Event Village to the start line is around 10 minutes, so make sure you get there in plenty of time.

It is expected everyone will be finished and off the course by around 11.45am.
The Event Village will be open until 1.00pm.

What do I need to bring?
Bring your water bottle, but there will also be plenty of water stations on the course.

If you registered by midnight on Thursday 17 August then you should already have received your race bib in the post – make sure you bring this along as it contains your timing chip. If you registered after this date however, you’ll need to pick up your race bib up on the day from the Event Registration tent at the Event Village. Please provide confirmation of your registration or some form of identification like a driver’s license.

You never can tell if Melbourne will be full of rain or shine, so make sure you come prepared for all seasons! Comfortable clothing and footwear are essential but umbrellas and a warm waterproof coat might be wise if the weather is looking wet.

Baggage storage is available for those who are registered. The baggage zone will be at the Event Village and will be open from 6.30am, all checked bags must be collected by 12.30pm on event day.

Getting there
It’s a good idea to get to the start line at least 15 minutes before starting – remember it’s around 10 minutes’ walk from the Event Village in Alexandra Gardens.

If you need to drop a bag off or pick up your bib, we recommend you get there 45 minutes beforehand.

The Event Village is located close to a range of car parks, cycle routes and public transport routes:
– Parking will be limited and there will be a number of road closures due to the event, so fun runners are encouraged to come along by foot, bike or public transport. It’s important to note that the Swan Street Bridge is currently being worked on so traffic conditions in this area are slower than usual- we recommend avoiding this area if possible.
– If you’re coming by train, the event is a short walk from Flinders Street Station and Richmond Station.
– Tram numbers 3, 5, 6, 8, 12, 64, 67 & 72 all travel down St Kilda Road.
Disembark at the Arts Centre, cross the road and head for Alexandra Gardens – you won’t be able to miss us!
– You’ll be able to park your bike on Boathouse Drive which is close to the Event Village – just bring your own lock.

You can find out more about parking and road closures by clicking the ‘Getting there’ button on the homepage.

The Course
Check the home page for the 5km and 10km course maps, this is also where the pram wave will take place.

Event marshals will be dotted along the courses, ensuring safety and helping to keep you motivated with cheers and support – and the occasional high five! The marshals will also be able to give you a helping hand with any questions or queries you might have.

A team of professional First Aiders will be providing services for the YMCA Father’s Day Fun Run on event day along the course and in the Event Village. If at any point you feel unwell, please notify those around you and find your way to the nearest First Aid point.

We’ll also have drink stations positioned along the course along with toilets.

The Finish Line will be right next to our Event Village where supporters and our Event Marshals and your family and friends can cheer you on as you cross the line.

The Event Village
The Event Village is open from 8.00am until 1.00pm, with activities during this time.

Delicious food trucks and free activities and entertainment will be on offer for the whole family.
