On the day logistics
The YMCA Father’s Day Fun Run is just around the corner and the excitement is building!
To help you get ready, here’s a guide to everything you need to know about the fun run this Sunday 2 September.
Registrations will still be open on the day, but at a slightly higher price. If you or anyone you know is interested in taking part, encourage them to sign up online by midday on Friday 31 August to beat the final price rise! Click here to register.
What time and where?
If you’re taking part in the 10km run, it starts at 8.30am. The 5km will kick off at 9.30am.
There will be a warm up for both runs – these are at the start line 30 minutes before.
When you arrive, head to the Event Village in Alexandra Gardens right by the skate park if you need to drop off any belongings to the bag check and if you need to collect your bib for the fun run. If not, you can head straight to the start line, which is located 5 minutes from the Event Village on Alexandra Avenue, east of the Swan Street Bridge.
What do I need to bring?
Bring your water bottle, but there will also be plenty of water stations on the course.
If you registered before midnight on Wednesday 15 August, then you should already have received your race bib in the post – make sure you bring this along as it contains your timing chip. If you registered after this date, you’ll need to pick up your race bib up on the day from the Event Registration tent at the Event Village. Please provide confirmation of your registration or some form of identification like a driver’s license.
Comfortable clothing and footwear are essential but you never can tell if Melbourne will be full of rain or shine, so make sure you come prepared for all seasons!
Baggage storage is available for those who are registered. The baggage zone will be at the Event Village and will be open from 7.00am, all checked bags must be collected by 12.30pm.
It’s a good idea to get to the start line at least 30 minutes before starting. If you need to drop a bag off or pick up your bib, we recommend you get there 45 minutes beforehand.
The Event Village is located close to a range of car parks, cycle routes and public transport routes:
- Parking in the area can be limited, so think about car-pooling to the event and arrive early to guarantee a park. We have partnered with Secure Parking to offer our runners a discounted $7 weekend parking at 300 Flinders Street Car Park. You will receive your promo code in your e-ticket after registering. Parking must be pre-booked online and paid for at least 30 minutes before arriving at the car park.
- If you’re coming by train, the event is a short walk from Flinders Street Station and Richmond Station.
- Tram numbers 3, 5, 6, 8, 12, 64, 67 & 72 all travel down St Kilda Road. Disembark at the Arts Centre, cross the road and head to Alexandra Gardens – you won’t be able to miss us!
- You’ll be able to park your bike on Boathouse Drive which is close to the Event Village – just bring your own lock.
You can find out more about parking and road closures by clicking the ‘Getting there’ button on the homepage.
Event marshals will be dotted along the courses, ensuring safety and helping to keep you motivated with cheers and support – and the occasional high five! The marshals will also be able to give you a helping hand with any questions or queries you might have.
A team of professional First Aiders will be providing services for the YMCA Father’s Day Fun Run on event day along the course and in the Event Village. If at any point you feel unwell, please notify those around you and find your way to the nearest First Aid point.
We’ll also have drink stations positioned along the course along with toilets.
The Event Village
The Event Village is open from 8.00am until 1.00pm, with activities during this time. There’ll be delicious food trucks, free activities and entertainment the whole family can enjoy.
